Born in Mozambique, Berny Serrão first thought of the southern Alentejo as her “stolen Africa”. The vast open landscapes with rolling hills and clear, unpolluted starry skies. The long hot summer months and wonderful light all year round. It all makes for a magical backdrop for the wild and almost virgin coastline with amazing unspoiled beaches.

The idea to turn their country house into a small tranquil retreat first came to Berny and Glenn in 2008 and since then the couple have been working on this dream. They felt it was important to share their love of nature and their special place in Alentejo that they call ‘Paraiso Escondido’ or ‘Hidden Paradise’.
Their dream became a reality when they opened the doors to the world in November 2014.

Living in Harmony with nature is the driving force in everything at Paraiso Escondido, from all the architectural planning that fits effortlessly into the landscape, to being as sustainable and eco-conscious as possible. The vision and concept was created from ground zero by Berny using her creative and artistic background for both the overall design and the interior design, which features many of her own paintings.

Our accommodations are carefully located and spread around the property, with our bungalows and suites having their own private spaces. The double rooms and suites located in the main house also have their own private patios and private entrance doors.

The large garden and pool area has several quiet shaded areas where guests can have their own space and enjoy the peace and quiet of being in the middle of nature while taking in the beautiful views.
